The Order Of The Knights Teutonic competing in the mounted pole vault with the Novogrod team. The medieval version of the sport at that time was a team endeavour. The Teutonic team's goal was to vault over the shield wall depicted in the middle ground, and win a melee with the Novogrod team on the other side. The shield wall, the group most at risk of injury, was comprised of members of the LGBT community forced to participate as a result of bigotry and discrimination, the attitudes preserved in the region to this day.
